Felt Sense Mindfulness, also known as Focusing,  is an awareness process developed by  Eugene T. Gendlin, the American philosopher and psychologist who developed the mind-body connection practice. Focusing  is  something you do internally – that is based on the idea that a certain kind of body sense  can help us discover and follow the best next steps of our life.

We are more oriented to our mind chatter than listening and tuning to our bodily sense awareness. Our body holds the most intelligence than our minds with its implicitly stored data. Get in touch with the felt bodily sense to contact  calm, clear, centred space within and move forward.

What is an awareness process?

Learning to pause and  paying attention to the sensation of your body often allows you to contact the sensations that are usually happening in the background beyond our conscious awareness. If you are sitting, just pause and shift your awareness to how your body is touching the space and how it feels . So, in this first step you have shifted your awareness.

The second step is to bring awareness into the inner area of your body: throat, chest, stomach, belly… What do you feel in there? We are not judging anything but being present with open awareness to any subtle sensation that presents itself.. It might be a subtle sense of being OK. There’s no right or wrong here.

If that’s not easy to feel – or to trust… well, that’s what Focusing Session is all about!
